We’re proud to partner with Three Mountains Cocoa, where we source specialty cocoa from Ghana’s Asante Akim region. At Chocoa 2026, that quality received formal recognition.
Three Mountains Cocoa has been awarded a Cacao of Excellence Gold Award, placing the Kome Blend among the best origins in the world.
The Cacao of Excellence is one of the most rigorous recognition programmes in the specialty cacao industry.
Operated by Bioversity International, it evaluates beans from producing countries worldwide, assessing flavor, fermentation quality, and genetic diversity. A Gold Award reflects outstanding performance across all three.
For producers, recognition at this level opens doors to premium markets, validates years of investment in quality practice, and signals to the wider industry that something exceptional is being grown here.
Ghana is one of the world’s largest cacao producers. The majority of its output moves through commodity channels, where price, not quality, drives the conversation. Specialty cacao from Ghana has historically been underrepresented on the world stage.
Three Mountains Cocoa is changing that. Led by Isaac Nyampong, TMC has built a model grounded in community involvement, rigorous post-harvest practice, and consistent quality that stands alongside the finest origins anywhere. This Gold Award recognises that work, and sends a clear signal to the wider industry.
Ghana has a place in the specialty tier.

We visited Ghana last year. Spending time with the farming communities behind the Kome Blend gave us a ground-level view of how this cacao actually moves, from pods in the field through to export preparation.
Farmers shared how working with Three Mountains Cocoa had changed the economics of their farms and their confidence in the value they produce. These aren’t small shifts. Stable pricing and consistent demand allow farmers to plan, invest, and pass something meaningful on to the next generation.
We traced the value chain step by step, watching the care that goes into central fermentation and solar drying. Each stage and quality check reflects deliberate practice, giving the Kome Blend its distinctive flavor profile.
Grown across eight farming communities in Asante Akim, the Kome Blend draws on cacao cultivated alongside UNESCO-recognised conservation land. Over 2,000 farmers from eight communities contribute to this crop.
Flavor profile: Blackcurrants with nutty caramel
Process: Central fermentation, wooden boxes, solar drying
Available as whole beans and cocoa liquor.
We source the Kome Blend and connect it with chocolate makers who value quality and provenance. Our relationship with Three Mountains Cocoa is built on regular communication, fair pricing, and genuine investment in understanding what’s happening at origin.
Standing in the field, following the chain from harvest to fermentation box to drying bed and strengthening our partnership, we understand the effort behind every bag.
The Cacao of Excellence Gold Award is a well-deserved recognition of what we’ve seen for ourselves.
